Alyse Larkin joined GOMO in December 2022 as a program manager for the Global Sea Level Observing System (GLOSS) network, the biological Global Ocean Ship-based Hydrographic Investigations Program (Bio-GO-SHIP), and the ocean Carbon and biogeochemistry portfolios. She is excited to help academic, private sector, and governmental partners access the resources they need to better understand the global ocean.

Alyse’s academic and research background is in marine microbiology, oceanography, and bioinformatics. She received her B.A. in Environmental Studies from Vassar College and her Ph.D. in Marine Science and Conservation from Duke University. Additionally, Alyse completed postdoctoral training with Dr. Adam Martiny at the University of California, Irvine. During her Ph.D. and postdoc, Alyse worked with genomic “big data” to assess the interactions between marine microbiomes, ocean biogeochemistry, and environmental change.

As a professionally trained ally, Alyse is committed to mentorship and scientific outreach supporting students who are diverse in ethnicity, culture, income level, educational background, and identity. As a Ph.D. student, Alyse was a founding member of the Scientific Research and Education Network nonprofit. “SciREN” has connected over 600 scientists, 1,000 educators, and ~40,000 K-12 students from underserved communities in North Carolina, Georgia, Alabama, and California.
