NOAA Research Reorganization Highlights Importance of Ocean Observing

NOAA Research Reorganization Highlights Importance of Ocean Observing

OOMD becomes GOMO

On April 2, 2020, NOAA Research officially announced the reorganization of NOAA labs and programs to better reflect their missions and contributions. Included in the reorganization is the promotion of the former Ocean Observing and Monitoring Division (OOMD) under the Climate Program Office (CPO) to the Global Ocean Monitoring and Observing (GOMO) Program. GOMO continues to support half of the world’s ocean observing research. Ocean observations are used in climate and weather prediction models and help us understand our changing ocean and its impact on the environment. We welcome you to read our updated mission and vision and learn more about NOAA Research’s reorganization effort. We especially thank our team at the Climate Program Office for its leadership and look forward to collaborations.
