Announcing Two New Ocean Observing Webinar Series
The AtlantOS Ocean Hour launched in February 2021 as a monthly webinar series to connect the Atlantic ocean observing community. This webinar series provides an opportunity for community engagement and development of the All-Atlantic Ocean Observing System (AtlantOS), as well as a space for the community to share ideas, progress in specific topics, use cases, projects, programs, and address issues in developing e.g. communities of practice. The Ocean Hour is an hour long webinar held on the 2nd Tuesday of each month, followed by networking opportunities. February’s Ocean Hour served as a revitalization of the importance of implementing the AtlantOS program and provided the observing community and all interested stakeholders with an update on recent activities and plans. The next Ocean Hour will be March 9, 2021 and focus on the Glider Network and Basin Scale Implementation. NOAA Global Ocean Monitoring and Observing (GOMO) Program Deputy Director Jessica Snowden is a member of the AtlantOS Steering Committee and GOMO International Ocean Science Program Specialist Ann Zinkann is a member of the AtlantOS Coordination Team.

The Global Ocean Observing System (GOOS) is hosting a new webinar series for the ocean observing community to hear about activities and topics of interest and to interact and connect. The next upcoming webinar is February 25, 2021 and is hosted by the Observations Coordination Groups – Capacity Development Team. This webinar will discuss OceanOPS (formerly JCOMMOPS). OceanOPS is providing services in monitoring, coordinating, and integrating data and metadata, across and expanding network of observing systems. It monitors over 100,000 observations daily from various networks and provides monitoring services and support. During this webinar OceanOPS will be providing a review of its mission, goals, and information system including demonstration of use cases of the web interface. Global Ocean Monitoring and Observing (GOMO) Program Director David Legler serves as Chair of the GOOS Observations Coordination Group.
