GOMO provides in-kind support to new NSF Research Networking Activity in the Arctic

GOMO is partnering with the University of Alaska, Fairbanks to support a new NSF Research Networking Activity: Coordinated Observations of Arctic Change (abbreviated Arctic CoObs). The activity, led by UAF International Arctic Research Center’s Hajo Eicken, will work over the next 5 years to co-develop a Pacific Arctic observation and data network design and take first steps in its implementation in partnership with regional and global observing networks. The effort supports food security needs of Alaska Native and Arctic communities and meets the research needs of the broader scientific community. GOMO’s Kelley Uhlig serves as project coordinator and NOAA liaison. Kelley’s role is to coordinate communication and facilitate the activities across the Arctic CoObs group to ensure that requirements are well articulated into shared variables for specific observing activities and further, into resulting data products that support Indigenous food security in Alaska. Kelley’s position at GOMO’s Arctic Research Program will also ensure close alignment of program priorities with the findings of Arctic CoObs, and place emphasis on GOMO’s observing assets in the Alaskan Arctic.
