LCDR Brian E. Elliot

Lieutenant Commander Brian Elliot is the current NOAA Corps Officer assigned as the Operations Manager for GOMO. His primary duties include serving as the vessel coordinator to schedule ship operations that support GOMO’s missions. NOAA, university, and private charter vessels are all used for GOMO projects. He is also the lead contract manager for the satellite communications portfolio, ensuring communications from thousands of observing systems around the world are successfully communicated.

His past experiences include serving as the Navigation Officer aboard NOAA Ship Hi’ialakai, the Operations Officer aboard NOAA Ship Ronald H. Brown, and the Executive Officer aboard NOAA Ship Fairweather. He has also completed shore assignments at Southwest Fisheries Science Center as the Advanced Survey Technologies Officer, the Executive Officer at the NOAA Small Boat Program, and as the Program Manager of the NOAA Small Boat Office. Prior to joining the NOAA Corps Brian ran his own company, Elliot Marine Services, a full-service staffing and fleet management company. Providing crew services, instruction, maintenance, engineering, diving operations and all other services to fit the yachting lifestyle as well as commercial applications.

Brian has an associate’s degree in engineering design and a bachelor’s in manufacturing engineering from Northern Michigan University. He has completed several graduate certificate programs from the University of Michigan, Standford, Oxford, and Wharton spanning the range from emerging technologies to human resource management. He is currently working on his masters in international affairs and security.

He and his wife live in the greater Washington DC area with their young daughter and golden retriever, they enjoy family road trips and exploring small towns, backroads, and out-of-the-way parks.
