Monitoring ocean acidification rates in the Alaskan Arctic
The Ocean Acidification Observations in Alaska (Distributed Biological Observatory) project aims to understand increased ocean acidification rates in Alaska by conducting a series of carbonate chemistry observations in the Pacific Arctic Region Distributed Biological Observatory (DBO), a network of rapidly changing and biologically important sites from the northern Bering Sea to the Arctic Ocean Basin. Long-term time series and continuous observations support several converging research efforts including assessing vulnerability of Alaskan coastal communities, economic impacts on Alaska fisheries, and establishing and tracking accelerated rates of change in the Pacific Arctic Region.
