This project will integrate polar climate and environmental data with a catalog of systems that conduct or coordinate observation and monitoring in the Arctic and Antarctic. The Registry of Polar Observing Networks (RoPON) at https://polarobservingregistry.org/ will
advance beyond a proof of concept to make structured information about networks, data, and observing assets more findable, accessible, interoperable, and reusable. Also, a prototype Polar Observing Site Discovery tool will aggregate metadata for thousands
of facilities, observatories, supersites, buoys, moorings, and community-based observations.
Project Goals:
- Develop innovative resources that help to link the summed contributions of multiple systems.
- Advance through an iterative process with outreach, community engagement, collaboration, metadata curation, and web usability testing.
- Help to: co-locate and optimize limited resources; improve data and metadata discovery; avoid duplicated effort; guide assessment & planning; and inform local communities.
