The Arctic Report Card is a timely and peer-reviewed source for clear, reliable and concise environmental information on the current state of Arctic environmental systems. Renewed annually since 2006, the Report Card has remained a constant source of knowledge and connection to different aspects of Arctic-related research and discoveries throughout the organization. The publication incorporates a wide range of modules within Arctic research and spans multiple NOAA line offices, including climate, satellite, fisheries, technology, and oceanographic-related projects. 

The Arctic Report Card is intended for a wide audience, including scientists, teachers, students, decision-makers and the general public interested in the future of Arctic environment and science.

About The Database

This Arctic Report Card (ARC) data portal is meant to increase access and transparency of datasets used in the ARC. Through a partnership between the Arctic Data Center, the US Arctic Observing Network (US AON), and the ARC, this portal will help to move ARC datasets towards alignment with the FAIR principles of data management (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, and Reuseable).

By The Numbers

The portal includes metadata records for most of the 27 datasets that inform key findings within the 2020 Arctic Report Card’s reporting on Vital Signs, which are the report’s annual updates on seven recurring topics: Surface Air Temperature; Terrestrial Snow Cover; Greenland Ice Sheet; Sea Ice; Sea Surface Temperature; Arctic Ocean Primary Productivity; and Tundra Greenness. Since 2006, over the course of the ARC series, Vital Signs essays have employed more than 100 different data products to support key findings of Arctic change.
