SuperUser Account / Friday, September 19, 2014 / Categories: OOM News CPO’s Thurston to attend Typhoon Workshop in Kyoto To demonstrate practical applications of ocean observations for improving typhoon track and intensity forecasts, the IOC/WMO Data Buoy Cooperation Panel (DBCP) are organizing the Third Capacity Development Workshop for the North Pacific Ocean and Marginal Seas (NPOMS-3) at Kyoto University Oct 6-8, 2014. NPOMS-3 will be hosted by Japan's Disaster Prevention Research Institute (DPRI) and Graduate School of Advanced Integrated Studies in Human Survivability (GSAIS) at Kyoto University. Participants will be from China, Taiwan, Japan, Korea, Palau, Marshall Islands, Thailand and Pacific Island GOOS. Colleagues from NOAA's Hurricane Forecast Improvement Program HFIP, CPO/COD's Global Drifter Program (GDP), and IOOS Glider Program at Rutgers (RUCOOL) will contribute. CPO’s Sidney Thurston will attend as part of his duties as chair of DBCP's Capacity Building Task Team and Lead Organizer. NPOMS-3 is one in a series of PANGEA workshops of JCOMM.
